This week’s idea on Mishna (5:4) is written by Freddie Chazan. Following a year at Yeshivat Reishit, Freddie studied Economics at UCL alongside learning at Brampton Bet Hamidrash. Freddie is now pursuing a Master’s at Reichman University and working in Finance in Israel, with plans to make Aliyah. Freddie’s passion for Israel is inspired by the resilience, attitude and character of those like the Dee family.

As we enter the first week of learning for the new year, we want to invite those who may not have participated in a while to use this as an opportunity to begin learning with us again.

At a time when Am Yisrael is in such need, it is more important than ever that we take things on in the merit of all those fighting for our homeland, both on the battlefield and beyond.

We are privileged that this week’s idea on Mishna 5:3 for Shabbat Shuva is written by Rabbi David Katz who is the Dean of Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim (MMY). Rabbi Katz also volunteers as the “Mazkir” for the recently formed “Keneset Forum for Yeshivot and Seminaries for Bnei and Bnot Chutz LaAretz” and works closely with MK Ohad Tal and his team to support and service the needs of this all important demographic. Originally from Teaneck, New Jersey, Rabbi Katz made aliyah in 1989, and lives with his family in Ramat Bet Shemesh. Since becoming connected to the project, Rabbi Katz has become friends with Rabbi Leo Dee.

This week’s idea on Mishna 5:2 has been written by Sara Blau. Sara is a multifaceted educator, artist, and author. As Extracurricular Director at Bais Rivkah High School, she inspires students and communities alike. A sought-after public speaker, Sara has presented in cities across the US, Canada, and abroad. She is a prolific author of 30 children’s books with translations in multiple languages, as well as two books for women. (You can find more at sarablau.com.) While Sara does not know the Dee family personally, as a fellow Jew, she loves the idea of learning in memory of their beautiful souls.

This week’s idea on Mishna 5:1 has been written by Racheli Dubizh. Racheli went to Lindenbaum for seminary and is now in her third year at Washington University in St. Louis. She loves learning Tanach and B”H plans on making aliyah.

This week’s idea on Mishna 4:22 concludes our learning of the fourth Perek of Mishna Avot. We are honoured that it is authored by Rabbi Leo Dee in memory of his wife, Lucy, and daughters, Maia and Rina.

This week’s idea on Mishna 4:21 has been written by Rabbanit Nomi Berman. Rabbanit Nomi serves as Rosh Beit Midrash at Ohr Torah Stone’s Midreshet Lindenbaum. She lives in Efrat with her husband and children, where she participates in the Lucy Dee z”l Women’s Parsha shiur rotation.

This week’s idea on Mishna 4:20 is written by Zev Dickson. Zev learnt at Yeshivat Sha’alvim for two years and now is studying Psychology at King’s College. Zev was in the same class as Maia Dee at IJDS in London and remembers her as always smiling.

This week’s idea on Mishna 4:19 is written by Ezra Girls Youth Movement UK. While on Israel tour, Ezra girls were privileged to hear from Rabbi Leo Dee on Tisha B’Av. The girls were truly inspired by his story and moved by his hope for the future of Am Yisrael. As a result of this, two of the chanichot, Dalia Landau and Yehudit Levy were eager to contribute towards this wonderful initiative. Dalia and Yehudit are both students starting sixth form in September and have always been passionate about and involved in Jewish education as a result of their upbringing.

This week’s idea on Mishna 4:18 is written by Georgia Selby. Georgia was a close friend of Maia from primary school in London and fondly remembers her positive attitude, fun and caring character. She was always hard working and had a deep love for Israel. Georgia spent a year learning at Midreshet Moriah and is now studying at the London College of Fashion.

This week’s idea on Mishna 4:17 is written by Jojo Jacob, who spent two years at Yeshivat Hakotel and is now studying Law. Jojo was in the same class as Maia at IJDS in London and remembers her being kind-hearted and a valued member of the class.
