The Jewish way is to see God even in the pain and the suffering; and the second sanctification of Ezra was forever, unlike Joshua’s first sanctification:  Ezra’s came about through “occupation, settling the land … through adversity, martyrdom, spiritual pain and despair, mockery and derision.”
